Ethnic discrimination in terms of human psychology

Unfortunately, people are often exposed to the ethnic discrimination. Specifically, Azerbaijan, my country, is full of people who group others based on their ethnicity and origin. There are respective stereotypes regarding each region: for instance, if someone is from region X, he or she tend to be jealous and mean. Today, I want to share my findings with you as a result of my investigations concerning the psychological causes of the given prejudicial thinking way.

In my opinion, the main offensive force leading people to unfairly group others on their ethnicity is the easiness of it. It is so difficult for humans to implement individualist approach, requiring demanding effort to know others personally, in their lives (Scientifically, humans generally choose the easier option even despite the fact that it results in destructive outcome).Instead, it is much easier for human beings to have certain prejudgments in order to spend less time and energy by not obsessing with their characters a lot.

However, this is the issue that all humans should not choose an easier path. The ethical revolutions of our modern era require everyone to judge others for their personal character traits and thoughts, not for their origin and country. But still some Eurasia and Middle Eastern countries are suffering from ethnic discrimination. How to tackle the problem here?

The best approach to get rid of prejudicial thinking way is empathy. It is the main way widely utilized in the psychology with the purpose of understanding others` problems and taking promising actions against them. When humans were emphatic toward the ones being subject to ethnic discrimination, they would ultimately find the biased assumptions in the action done.

To sum up, points above have discussed the provided topic from several aspects, in which case some causes are explained. The most preventative measure to take is being emphatic in the instances of racial, ethnic and gender discrimination or bullying, triggering the disastrous effects for everyone and, most essentially, for our common brotherhood.

Punishment or rehabilitation: which is more effective technique psychologically?

It is inevitably true that our world has always been full of people committing criminal acts. Currently, there are two main approaches implemented toward these criminals; one is physical or mental punishment and the other is rehabilitation of them, which results in their integration to the society. As far as I know, both techniques are utilized by different systems and philosophical waves: for instance, Islamic juridical system largely focusses on the punishment, while Scandinavian and protestant systems view rehabilitation more advantageous method. In this article, I will draw attention to the psychological outcomes of both and, then, state my own opinion backed up by reliable assumptions and accepted theories of neuroscience. Firstly, it should be clarified in what context the efficacy of punishment and rehabilitation are going to be disclosed. With that aim in mind, I want to give the purpose of prisons; in the widely accepted systems, prisons are used to reduce the probabili...

Human emotions-Anger

In this series called “Human emotions”, I am planning to analyze psychological background of human feelings and their actual stemming places. One of the most intense emotional states, anger and aggression are the main problem in various societies. It is highly important to know how anger emerges in the brain and psychology of humans with the purpose of preventing these kinds of occurrences. According to the major articles and findings, anger is not the primary emotion; rather, it is thought to be a secondary emotion. In a broader sense, anger and aggression is the defense mechanism of our brains against any form of pain, including mental and physical. In my opinion, anger is the natural reaction of humans in case of any interruptions to their targets, goals and self-interest.   Despite being highly natural, anger has a lot of psychological costs affecting humans` overall health in a bad manner. For instance, regarding medical side, angry people tend to live so severe diseases...

Cognitive development has always been subject to scientific discussions in various communities. As a concept, it has historically been explained by dividing out humans` overall life into sections which produce more vivid pictures describing the stages of intellectual growth . Jean Piaget is a good example of scientists whose works are still in use of several branches including psychology and education. Having determined key assumptions before carrying out experiments, he concluded upon 4 important stages and attached distinctive characteristics for each of them. When analyzing his and other scientists` thoughts around this topic, I u...
